FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

Is there anything worse than scrolling through your timeline and seeing sunny pictures of the beach while you’re stuck at home in the dead of winter?

Don’t worry because in honor of Leap Day and the extra day in 2016, Corona Extra is helping fans cope with FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) by encouraging adults 21 and over to share their best #CoronaFakecation photos on social media.

Fans who post their #CoronaFakecation photo with #Sweepstakes on social Feb. 24 – March 7, will be entered for a chance to win a vacation of their choice (up to $4,500).

A “fakecation” is a fake vacation photo uploaded to social media by consumers, which looks completely real, as if that person is sharing a photo from their favorite beach – wherever it may be. Corona Extra will be serving up the tools and instructions people need to fool family and friends into thinking they’ve escaped to celebrate Leap Day with Corona Extra in 2016. Here are more details:
  • When, who, what: Starting February 24, people 21 and older in the U.S. can enter for a chance to win a $4,500 vacation by sharing their #CoronaFakecation photo using that hashtag and #Sweepstakes on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
  • How: Consumers can visit to download a special “find your beach” background and get instructions for how to snap and share a realistic fakecation photo. Full rules for entry will also be available at the above address.
  • What else: Corona Extra USA will be sharing content (video, photo, etc.) across all social channels 2/24 – 3/7 – to teach people how to create their fakecation and highlight fun user-generated content.

Please click here to learn more about #CoronaFakecation Sweepstakes and let me know if you would like to view an infographic with or short-form video about the program. By request I will also share original research* detailing consumers’ vacation photo sharing habits, if consumers think Leap Day should be a national holiday and how people are most likely to spend the extra day in 2016.
